Sri Krishna Janmasthami

Introduction:

The auspicious day of the appearance of Lord Krishna is celebrated all over the world as  "Sri Krishna Janmashtami ". It is celebrated on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha  of the month of Shraavana. Krishna, who is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appeared in Mathura as son of    Vrishni dynasty King Vasudeva  and  princess Devaki.

“As stated in the Bhagavad-gita, the Lord says that his appearance, birth, and activities, are all transcendental, and one who understands them factually becomes immediately eligible to be transferred to the spiritual world.

Lord Krishna Himself in Bhagavad gita, Chapter 4 text 8 describes the reason of His appearance as follows:

ParitranaayA Sadhunam
vinAshaaya cha dushkrutaam
dharma-samsthapanaarthaaya
sambhavaami yuge yuge
To deliver the pious and annihilate the miscreants, as well also reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear millennium after millennium.

Birth

Krishna was the 8th son of princess  Devaki and Vasudeva, King of Vrishni Dynasty. Acording to astrological calculations the date of Krishna's birth, known as Janmashtami, is 19th  July 3228 BCE and departed on 3102 BCE. Krishna belonged to the Vrishni clan of Yadavas from Mathura, and was the eighth son born to the princess Devaki, and her husband Vasudeva.
Mathura (in present day Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh) was the capital of the Yadavas, to which Krishna's parents Vasudeva and Devaki belonged. King Kansa, Devaki's brother, had ascended the throne by imprisoning his father, King Ugrasena. Afraid of a prophecy that predicted his death at the hands of Devaki's eighth son, Kansa had the couple locked into a prison cell. After Kansa killed the first six children, and Devaki's apparent miscarriage of the seventh (which was actually a secret transfer of the infant to Rohini ( second wife of Vasudeva) as Balarama), Krishna was born.
After his birth Vishnu ordered Vasudeva to take Krishna to Gokul to Nanda ( brother of Vasudeva) and Yashoda where he can live safely, away from his evil Uncle Kansa. So Vasudeva took Krishna with him and crossed Yamuna to reach Gokul .There everyone was asleep,so he quietly kept him there and returned with Yashoda's daughter.Kansa, thinking her to be Devaki's eight child, threw her on a stone. But she rose in air and transformed into Yogmaya(who is  Krishna's sister according to Bhagavata Purana), an incarnation of Lord Krishna and warned Kansa about his death that devaki's son is alive and he will kill you. Then she vanished after predicting Kansa's death. Krishna grew up in Gokul with his brother Balarama. Then he
returned to Mathura and killed Kansa with the help of his brother,Balrama.

According to legend princess Devaki feeding Balagopala (Krishna) should be worshipped. To worship lord Krishna keep ready Tulsi ,Parijatha flowers and red flowers,as Krishna will be pleased .He likes Laddoos prepared with ghee, Milk, butter, yogurt, Chaklis, etc., So prepare all these dishes and do naivedyam after offering arghyam, Mangalaarati, Aarathi and serve prasadam.
