WORSHIP OF SERPENTS STARTED?
After the death of King Parikshit by a snake bite; who was cursed by a sage. The next descendent who became Kuru King was Janmejay .He performed Sarpayagna in order to take revenge on his father's death. But a learned sage Astika appeased him. The King Janmejay told Sage Astika to ask a boon.Soon he asked to stop sarpayagna as by doing this yagna will not bring his father alive.Soon Takshak was released free by Sage Astika. The day King Janmejay performed sarpayagna was shuklapaksha shraavan masa panchami tithi.
